Re: Snapshot size 44.00B & 43.00B

Where do you see this? Could you please post a screen shot?

Maybe it's just counting the few bytes remaining in the .vmsd file of the VM(s) after deleting snapshots.

Part of VAAI is the XCOPY SCSI command.  Microsoft calls this command ODX.

So ODX is a proper subset of the much larger set that is VAAI.

Hi,

The issue is resolved. No such issues should be observed between VDP and VR in future release (5.5)

To add more details, replication is disabled as a first step on the restoring VM which was not the case earlier.

So what are those functions that ODX can't perform?

The .vmsd file holds the information which is displayed in the Snapshot Manager plus some additional data like snapshot numbers, ... I can't tell you whether and when this file is deleted, but regarding the size of only a few Bytes, it's definitely nothing to worry about.

Re: View Upgrade Procedure 4.6 to 5.2

Hey gbtechsAT,

I am in the process of doing the same upgrade from a 4.6 CS on Win2003 32-bit to View Horizon 5.2 Windows 2008 64-bit

My plan is very similar:

- Install View CS 5.2 on a Windows 2008 64-bit OS as a Replica role and connect to the 4.6 environment

- Allow data to replicate

- Swing existing View clients that were once connected to the old 4.6 connection server to the new 5.2 connection server by changing the view client connection server name (no load balancer in place, and I'm trying to minimize any downtime)

- Upgrade Composer

- Uninstall 4.6 off of the old Windows 2003 32-bit OS once all View Clients have been directed to the new 5.2 CS.

- Upgrade vCenter and then the ESX hosts from 4.x to ESX 5.1 update 1

Can View CS 4.6 and the new 5.2 exist in the same replication group?

And will adding the 5.2 into the same 4.6 replication group disconnect any existing View connections session established with the 4.6 CS server? Currently Secure Tunnel is configure on the 4.6 CS server and Direct Mode is not being used.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

You cannot have 5.2 and 4.6 Connection Servers in the same production cluster. The upgraded CS will upgrade the AD LDS schema and cause problems.

The only supported method for upgrading is to install a 4.6 Connection Server on Windows Server 2008 R2, decommission the old CS (ie. uninstall), then upgrade the Windows Server 2008 R2 View 4.6 CS to 5.2.

Yes that will work - in reagrds not being able to connect to the existing hosts you will just see them disconnected in the inventory -

configuring vmotion in vcloud 5.1

we are currently running vcloud director 5.1. The backend cluster was not initially setup with vmotion because we did not have dedicated network. We are running vcloud vapps now successfully and would like to add vmotion to the cluster. I have read that there may be vcloud issues after enable/disable DRS, I wanted to ask if anyone has seen the same with vmotion. thanks

Re: I need a script to log into guest OS desktop, similar to option in guest customization wizard

Hi LucD - I have made some progress with my scripting, decided there is no way to script the logon I'm looking for without the reg modification that I don't want, so I started to develop new ways to script the verifications I need.  and in doing so, I implemented the Invoke VMscript method as you suggested, but it continues to fail to authenticate.  I do have the PSscript I wrote working directly in powershell, but when I attempt to perform the actions with powercli Invoke VMwcript I can't authenticate.

this I extracted the piece that is causing the problem and tried to run a simple script:

connect-viserver $vcentername

$VMs = get-vm -location $CLUSTERNAME | Sort -property Name
Invoke-VMScript -ScriptText $script -VM $VMs -GuestUser administrator -GuestPassword ********

What could I being doing wrong in this?  all the VMs are built with the same admin pw...  so I would think I shouldn't have any problem logging in with this the way it is...

I'm using vSphere powercli 5.1 release 2

VIntagedon,

Could you please display detailed setup of you lab hardware? I'm planning to virtualize XBMC too, so I'm pretty worried about videocard/usb/hdd passthrough.

Thanks.

Afaik, the Windows Client doesn't use SSO at all, so this may be a different issue. Please take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1015639 to see whether removing/re-adding the vCenter Server from/to the domain solves the issue. Ensure you follow the steps in the KB article in order to preserve vCenter permissions!
