I had this exact issue this morning. The solution was to check Device Manager on the HOST machine. I saw that VMWare Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMnet1 and VMWare Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMnet8 were both disabled. After re-enabling these virtual adapters networking on my VMs worked.
